In order to improve the standard in Ghana’s education system a National Standardized Test is to be carried out across the country from December 17, 2021.

Class four pupils in the public schools are to take Numeracy and Literacy tests. This will be their first external assessment in monitoring their learning progress so far.

Class two and six will next also get the opportunity to take the NST to know the loopholes in their academic pursuit so far in order to address them.

Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum indicated that the test will enable stakeholders in the education sector to gather data of pupils and to also know where they need help academically to address it than to wait till 11 years where the student is almost ready for his Basic Education Certificate Exam and it might be too late to rectify it for the student. The Minister also debunked the assertion that there are no improved materials for teaching and learning.

Director-General of the Ghana Education Service Professor Opoku Amankwa also added that the NST is designed to grade the pupil and direct the GES to know which area to improve as well.

The spokesperson for the Education Ministry Mr Kwasi Kwarteng revealed plans and preparations are far advanced for the NST to be administered and it is going to be done annually to ascertain if Ghana’s education is on course.
