Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu has stated president Nana Akufo-Addo is a failure in the fight against ‘Galamsey’ as the Chinese illegal mining kingpin, Aisha Huang, was re-arrested in the country after government announced in 2018 that she was expatriated.

Aisha Huang, aka Aisha Ruixia, a 47-year-old Chinese ‘galamsey’ kingpin who was said to have been deported in 2018 is back in the country and mining without license.

On the back of this the Minority leader stated that Nana Addo did not mean his words upon the numerous promises to fight illegal mining, it shows “Akufo-Addo has failed in the ‘galamsey’ fight”.

According to Harruna Iddrisu, the natural resources of the country are being destroyed by the activities of ‘Galamsey’. “It exposes the porosity of our borders but for me, it reflects a fundamental failure of the government on his illegal mining fight and ‘galamsey’ fight to which he has committed enormous resources. What is the end result? Our water bodies are still being polluted, illegal mining is still ongoing, excavators were seized and burnt and some even got missing. This reflects again as I said the anomaly of our time,” he said.

Aisha was remanded into lawful custody by an Accra Circuit Court on Friday, 2rd September because there was no Chinese interpreter.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show this morning, the law maker said, the problem persists because of the “poor governance system led by President Nana Akufo-Addo. It simply means he has failed in his galamsey war”.

Though he called President Nana Akufo-Addo a failure, he asked the law enforcement and security agencies to prosecute the ‘Galamsey’ Kingpin Aisha Huang.

“So we expect the law enforcement agencies to take up this matter and make sure she is subjected to the full rigors of the law without any fear or favour. Other than that, how would you arrest any Ghanaian associated with illegal mining? What would you do to the person when you cannot do this to a Chinese national who has been doing this with impunity and disrespected our law,” he reiterated.

The charges she and her accomplices Johng Li Hua, Huang Jei, and Huaid Hai Hun are facing, are mining without a license, engaging in the sale and purchase of minerals without a valid license.
