Mr Ken Ashigbey, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications has reiterated the need for credible data in the ongoing Sim Card re-registration exercise to ward off the activities of scammers.

He revealed this while expressing his thoughts on the recently launched sim registration application to complement the efforts of the telcos as they register sim cards to meet the deadline given by the Ministry of Communication and Digitization’s September 30 deadline for all Sim Cards to be re-registered using the Ghana Card.

The said mobile application is to aid Ghanaians who have linked the Ghana card to the sim cards to register the sim themselves. The app is currently available on the Google play store and soon to be on the apple app store as well, according to the National Communication Authority.

Madam Ursula Owusu, Minister of Communication and Digitization, introduced the application which is available for us at a fee of GHS5 at a press briefing to announce the extension of the deadline for the exercise on Sunday 31st July 2022.

Mr Ken Ashigbey while expressing his thoughts said: “When the database is authentic we can now fish out those scammers and all”.

According to him, the data is being kept by the National Information Technology Agency and assured the security of the data is guaranteed and stressed the need for the National  Identification Authority and NCA to strengthen their ties to keep the data more secure.
