The Forestry Commission has issued a press statement on the incident that occurred in the Accra Zoo where on 28th August a middle-aged man, believed to be in his thirties, was killed by a lion at the Accra Zoo inside the Achimota Forest.

According to the Forestry Commission press statement, the intruder was spotted around the premises on Sunday at about 12 noon, before he managed to jump the zoo’s security fence into lion’s cage.

The intruder, who is yet to be identified, was pounced upon by the lion and was subsequently injured. The Zoo managers upon noticing the incident coaxed the lions into a safe hold and caged the lions before he invited the Achimota Police who conveyed the body to the morgue.

The commission added that no lion has escaped and that the lioness and two cubs are safe in the Zoo.
