The Sovereign Council of Sudan has announced a failed coup attempt by some soldiers.

On Tuesday morning, the Council through the state-run television announced the failed attempted coup and called on the people to confront it.

Even though it is reported that the persons who attempted the coup were military personnel, their identities and which group they belong to are yet to be disclosed. It is however suspected that these are persons linked to the ousted President Omar al-Bashir.

A government source revealed that the coup plotters attempted to take over the state-run television to declare the dismissal of the Council of Ministers and the Sovereignty council that compose the country’s transitional government. They also had plans of taking over the army headquarters.

Speaking shortly on this, Mohamed Al Faki Suleiman who is a member of the ruling military-civilian council, wrote on his Facebook page, “All is under control. The revolution is victorious,”.

Sudan is being run by a transitional government made-up of military and civilian representatives after the military signed a power-sharing agreement. The military junta which ousted the state’s long time President Omar Al-Bashir in 2019 is supervising the full transition of power to a civilian government with the support of the civilian representatives.
