Israeli Ambassador to UN Mr Gilad Erdan

The discussions during the live UN meeting yesterday was the air strikes against Palestine and how to restore calm in the region. But during that debate for a calm and a cease to the bombings, Israeli Ambassador to the UN caused a stir when he described the actions of Israel as ‘Israel’s defence against terrorist in Palestine’.

To him, the UN is being prejudiced to order a ceasefire merely 11 days after the continuous bombings which has killed innocent civilians in Palestine when it took the members months to convene after the outbreak of covid.

Mr Gilad Erdan came to the meeting with placards with Qur’anic quotes as evidences to justify Israel’s killings of Palestinian civilians and proceeded to exit during Riad al-Maliki’s counterback.

The Palestinian Foreign minister asked how an occupying power can ‘defend’ itself against a population that is deprived of basic human right?

The US envoy related to the UN how unceasingly and tirelessly they have been working towards peace. Continued afterwards to defend Israel’s right to continue bombing Palestine, justification for the rebellious acclaimed speeches of the Hamas forces which they claimed were the ones responsible for the casualties on both ends.

But the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was empathic in his order and also sought the combined voices of the members to back him in the call for a ceasefire and an end to Israel’s disproportionate attacks.

The Secretary-General’s speech is a loud declaration on the stance of the house on the roles of both Israel and Hamas in this conflict and hopefully after yesterday’s meeting both sides will back down.
