Paul Pogba sets a new Premier League record in United’s draw against Southampton

Paul Pogba kicks a ball in Manchester United's 1 - 1 draw against Southampton in week 2 of the Premier League

France and Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba made Premier League history with his assist for Mason Greenwood against Southampton on Sunday. he became the first player in Premier League history to register 5 assists in a team’s opening two matches to a season.

Pogba’s first four assists came in United’s opening match against Leeds United at Old Trafford. Though his latest assist, unfortunately, did not lead to a win for the Red Devils in the match against Southampton last night, Pogba’s assist for Mason Greenwood broke a premier league record.

The record was made known by the Premier League on its official Twitter handle yesterday following the match.. “@paulpogba became the first player in #PL history to register as many as 5 assists in a team’s first two matches in a season”. Official Premier League confirmed.

Regarding United’s match against Southampton last night, the Reds were better in the second half but never pushed on after equalising. Many had in mind that Ole Gunnar Solskaer would start his £73 million summer acquisition from Dortumd, Jadon Sancho with Mason Greenwood playing from the left wing on Rashford’s behalf, however, the winger only joined the game as a second-half substitute.

Pogba is a very vital asset to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team, but his future has also been uncertain for some time, with less than a year left on his contract and regular talk of a move away fuelled by his agent Mino Raiola.

Manchester United still have some time to get him to perform his magic on the Old Trafford turf even before he departs for free if they cannot reach a new deal with the former Juventus man. For now, Pogba has this Premier League record to his name.
