Hearts of Oak beat Eleven Wonders to move top of table

Accra Hearts of Oak have risen to the summit of the league table, one point ahead of bitterest rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko. The position could be temporary though, depending on the outcome of the Kotoko vs WAFA game later on Saturday.

The Phobians visited Techiman Eleven Wonders on the back of three consecutive wins in the league. Their opponents however were struggling to find their feet and lost in their last encounter against Karela United.

Both sides made changes to their lineups from their previous matches with Wonders replacing their goalkeeper Abu Michael with Abdulai Ibrahim as part of the five changes to their lineup.

The Phobians welcomed back skipper Abdul Fatawu Mohammed to the fold whereas Patrick Razak and Victor Aidoo both missed places in the starting lineup.

Four minutes before the half hour mark, talisman Kwadwo Obeng Jnr shot the Phobians into the lead following an error that resulted from a miscommunication between Abdulai Ibrahim and Tetteh Nortey.

Neither side could manage a goal in the second half as the Phobians held on to secure the maximum points away from home. The win takes them to the summit of the table, a point ahead of Mariano Barreto’s Porcupine Warriors who play WAFA SC later on Saturday.
