The National Amputee Football Team, the Black Challengers has despite the heroic performance that landed them the Africa Cup of Nations Championship been left stranded in Tanzania without air tickets to return home.

A video trending on social media has got many Ghanaian fans lambasting the leadership of the team for neglecting them while others are calling for part of the attention given to the Black Stars to be given to other sports teams such as the Black Challengers.

Ghana secured a 3-2 victory over West African neighbours Liberia in Tanzania to win the championship after beating Egypt, Kenya and Nigeria before dispatching reigning champions Angola in the last four to set a date with Liberia. The win is Ghana’s second and the first since winning the maiden edition by beating the same opponent 14 years ago in 2007.

Speaking in the viral video, a member of the team and captain of the side, Richard Arthur Opentil said the players who are based in Turkey where they ply their professional trade pooled their resources together to go to the tournament due to some issues in the leadership that affected their chances of getting sponsorship. He said, they made the efforts and hoisted Ghana’s flag high by winning the tournament and now wants that Ghanaians can help them get out of Tanzania and back home in Ghana to present the trophy to the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo before they fly out to Turkey to join their clubs.
