Miners Halt Phobians Fine Run In League With A 1 – 0 Win
Ashanti Gold SC have halted the fine run of Accra Hearts of Oak under Samuel Boadu. The result was earned via an injury-time penalty scored by Amos Addai.
The match started with fine play from both sides inside the first 45 minutes. Neither side could however convert the plethora of chances that came begging to goals. Hearts of Oak would however rue the loss due to their dullness in front of the goal in the first half including a penalty.
Victor Aidoo had the chance to give his side the lead in under 20 minutes after Sammed Mohammed fell Patrick Razak in the box. The forward however saw his spot-kick saved by the impressive Kofi Mensah for the Miners.
That penalty miss would end up haunting the Phobias after they were punished late on by AshGold via a penalty kick. Fatawu Mohammed was the culprit in this instance after he was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box.
Amos Addai stepped out and put the ball past Benjamin Mensah to earn AshGold maximum points deep into injury time. The win leaves the Phobians 4th on the table with 30 points from 19 games. Ashanti Gold meanwhile are 8th with 26 points also after 19 rounds of matches.
The defeat has brought an end to Samuel Boadu’s perfect start to life with the Accra giants. It also ended the Miners run of three games without a win having suffered a loss and two draws since their 4 – 0 trouncing of Aduana Stars in February. Ashanti Gold will travel to face King Faisal in the week 20 fixture on April 16, 2021. Samuel Boadu’s side will be at home to welcome regional rivals Inter Allies two days later.
