Kumasi Asante Kotoko made light work of Berekum Chelsea in their match week 19 fixture. A first-half Andy Kumi strike and a late goal from Godfred Asiamah made the difference.

Chelsea started the match on the front foot and saw an effort saved by Abalora in the 4th minute. Kotoko then warmed into the game and won the first corner of the match in the 7th minute.

An intrusion into the Kotoko box by Chelsea drew a save from Abalora denying Stephen Amankona a goal. Kotoko then also made incursions into the Blues box searching for the opener. Kotoko soon got the opening goal through Andy Kumi who netted his second goal in as many matches for Kotoko.

That 26th-minute effort from Kumi would be the difference in the match for the first half. The Porcupine Warriors eventually went into recess leading by a lone goal despite Chelsea creating some good chances late on.

Two minutes after recess, Chelsea earned a penalty but the resulting kick was sent searchingly into the stands. The culprit was Bright Amponsah after Yussif Mubarik had gleefully granted Chelsea the chance to claw back into the game.

Both sides created further chances with the Porcupines claiming the better share of it. None resulted in a goal until Godfred Asiamah on for Emmanuel Gyamfi put the icing on the cake deep into injury time.

The success over Chelsea has moved Kotoko to the summit of the table, a point ahead of Great Olympics. It was also the second successive win for Barreto in his two games played as Kotoko manager. His side is yet to concede a goal and has scored six goals.

Barreto’s side would travel to face Olympics in the top of the table encounter on April 6. Chelsea meanwhile is 12th on the table and will play at home to Ebusua Dwarfs on the same day.
