Medeama beat Attram de Visser 3-2 to set a date with Hearts of Oak in FA Cup semi-final

Medeama SC squad to face Attram de Visser Academy in the MTN FA Cup quarter-final match at Tarkwa Akoon Park on July 25, 2021.

Medeama SC will have the chance to add to their FA Cup trophy cabinet but first would have to overcome reigning premier league champions Hearts of Oak in the last four.

The Mauve and Yellow beat lower-tier side Attram de Visser Academy at the Tarkwa Akoon Park in Sunday afternoon encounter to book a date with the champions. The two-time former winner of the competition had to wait to complete the task in extra time after the Academy side proved too strong to beat in 90 minutes.

Medeama had to wait for a Benjamin Arthur 44th minute goal to open the scoring in the encounter and went for the recess with the slim lead. Former Asante Kotoko and Bechem United striker Ahmed Toure made it 2 – 0 in the 56th minute to put Medeama in the driving seat.

The Academy boys had other ideas and impressively halved the deficit in the 64th minute through Joshua Anim. Kingsley Sakyi then pulled them level in less than 10 minutes after their first goal when he scored in the 73rd minute. Neither side could add another goal as the tie headed off to extra time after a thrilling 90 minutes of football.

Prince Opoku Agyemang then separated the two sides on the stroke of half-time in extra time when he scored from the penalty spot after Medeam won a penalty. They held on to that lead to see off the match, winning 3 – 2 against the Division Two side.

Medeama next hurdle is record winners and current premier league champions Hearts of Oak who lie in wait in the semi-finals after securing a hard-fought 0 – 1 win over Elmina Sharks on Saturday evening. The winner will face either Berekum Chelsea or Ashanti Gold SC in the final.
