Kotoko vs King Faisal at the Baba Yara Stadium on December 5, 2021 in a league game. Faisal won 2-3

A lot of interesting fixtures occurred over the weekend in the Ghana Premier League and our team at myactiveonline brings to you all that you need to know in case you missed any of the flicks, kicks and screams.

There were three matches on Saturday with no match coming off on Friday as has been the case in previous weeks. And apart from the Medeama versus Hearts of Oak match that was postponed due to the Phobains participation in the CAF Confederation Cup, all other matches were played.

Accra Lions bounced back from their two-goal defeat against fellow debutants Bibiani Gold Stars last week to secure their second win of the season by beating Techiman Elevn Wonders 1-0 in Accra. Frederick Asante scored the only goal in the match in the 79th-minute.

Aduana Stars handed the West Africa Football Academy a heavy 3-0 defeat at the Nana Agyeman Badu I Park in Dormaa. The Ogya Boys continued their fine run of form to make it three straight wins on the bounce with their only defeat in the season coming against league leaders King Faisal. Hafiz Adams and Emmanuel Gyamfi both scored in the first half before Bright Adjei quenched WAFA’s hope of a comeback with barely 20 minutes to play. The defeat means the Academy Boys remain with one win and three defeats in six matches.

Elmina Sharks got the better of Karela United at the Nduom Sports Complex in Elmina by edging out a 2-1 win. A brace from Justice Mensah and a late consolation from Kelvin Andoh did the magic for the host who lost three matches so far. The visitors have now lost two and drawn three others with only one win this season. Bright Adjei missed a penalty for Aduana in the second half.

On Sunday, Accra Great Olympics and Bechem United played out a goalless draw in Accra. The result leaves the top teams in the top half of the table with Bechem United laying 5th on 20 points while the Dade Boys are a point less and two places below at 7th.

King Faisal showed their early title credentials by handing Kotoko their first defeat and doing so at home in the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The Insha Allah Boys who have been on fire this season and only tasted their first defeat in match day three against Berekum Chelsea have put the past two weeks behind them to stage a strong performance that secured the win in the derby match. Two goals from red-hot Zubairu Ibrahim in the 4th and 18th minutes gave the visitors a strong start and the advantage at halftime. However, straight from the break, the Porcupine Warriors fought back through Cameroonian striker George Mfegue Omgba. Zubairu added the third for his sid while completing his hat-trick before Mfegue Omgba also added his second of the day with 16 minutes to play. The win saw King Faisal replace Kotoko at the summit of the table with also 13 points.

Ashanti Gold SC and Legon Cities played out a goalless draw at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi. Neither side was able to get the ball into the opponent’s net in 90 minutes as they settled for a point each. The Miners are 8th on the table with 8 points while the Royals place 12th with six points.

Real Tamale United continued their winning streak with two on the bounce and their first win away from home when they handed Berekum Chelsea a 0-1 defeat. Former Ashanti Gold midfielder, David Sandan Abagna was again at the forefront as he scored the only goal in the match to secure the three points for the Tamale-based club. The win takes RTU to 6th on the table with 10 points and places Chelsea in 17th position with fours points.

Dreams FC were two-zero winners against Bibiani Gold Stars at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu. Agyenim Boateng Mensah opened the scoring for the home side in the 26th-minute before the break. Fatawu Issahaku added the second with eight minutes of normal time to play before Richard Amoah scored a late consolation goal for the visitors deep into injury time via the penalty spot.

Stats

Of the eight matches played, 16 goals were scored, 10 by home teams and 6 by away teams. There were six wins with four of them being from the home teams. The two other drawn games were goalless. One player completed a hat-trick with two others scoring a double. Two penalties were awarded but one of them was missed by Bright Adjei for Aduana Stars and the other scored by Richard Amoah for Bibiani Gold Stars against Dreams FC.
