The 2021/22 Champions League group stage is already at the halfway stage and matchday three of this season’s competition definitely did not disappoint in the entertainment stakes.
There were big performances from individuals all across Europe this week, so many in fact that plenty has missed out on selection here.

Champions League team of the week – matchday 3
Goalkeeper and defenders
GK: Alisson Becker (Liverpool) – Becker contributed to Liverpool’s triumph over Atletico Madrid as he made some important saves.
RB: Mattia de Sciglio (Juventus) – Provided a decisive assist for his team to grab the win over Zenit.
CB: Andreas Christensen (Chelsea) – His first goal for Chelsea FC and a clean sheet for his team’s 4-0 win against Malmo was enough to earn him a spot at centre-back though someone watching that goal now would say he deserves to compete for our number 9 role.
CB: Gerard Pique (Barcelona) -contributed massively to his team’s first 3 points in the Champions League as he got the lone goal that settled the scores.
LB: Daley Blind (Ajax) – Blind was superb on the left side as he got a goal and contributed to one as his team(Ajax) thrashed Dortmund 4-0 win in Amsterdam.
Midfielders
CM: Marco Verratti (PSG) – Verratti had a massive performance which gave his team the platform to beat RB Leipzig.
CM: Arturo Vidal (Inter) – Vidal got himself a goal and an assist with top performance against a Sheriff side that beat Real Madrid and proved to be the season’s surprise package after two wins in two before the match against Inter.
Forwards
RW: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – His current form has earned him the accolade as the best player in the world right now. His dribbling skills and hunger for goals got his team the win over Atletico Madrid.
ST: Sebastien Haller (Ajax) – Former Westham and currently Ajax striker got the better of Mats Hummels to get a goal and two assists for his team to thrash Dortmund.
ST: Cristiano Ronaldo (Man Utd) – Mr Champions League, once again did his magic to get Manchester United the win over Atalanta. It was not just a win but a potential saving act for Ole Gunnar Solkjaer who was under pressure to deliver following a series of poor results in the past few weeks.
LW: Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid) – Stepped up his game to get Madrid back on track with a goal and an assist. The Brazilian is having his best season at Madrid since he joined the club in 2018.
