With barely a month to the start of the new football season in Ghana, the Ghana Football Association has announced the schedule for the new season which will start on Friday, October 29, 2021, and end on Sunday, June 19, 2022.

There are interesting clashes in the opening week but we will not have a Super Clash until in match week 7 when Hearts of Oak will host sworn rivals Asante Kotoko in Accra. The return fixture of the Super Clash will be on matchday 24 at Kumasi when the champions travel to the Porcupine Warriors home for the encounter.

The first Kumasi derby will be on matchday 6 when Kotoko take on King Faisal and the Bono derby will be three weeks later on matchday 9 when Aduana Stars and Berekum Chelsea lock horns for three points and supremacy.

But what clashes will excite fans on match day 1? Champions Hearts of Oak will have a home match to kickstart their season against Legon Cities who narrowly escaped the drop last season. And that would be the first of the Accra Regional derbies of the season but with Inter Allies and Liberty Professionals gone, there won’t be any on matchday 1 until the second week when Great Olympics will host new side Accra Lions.

Asante Kotoko will start their new journey under Dr Ogum with a trip to Dawu to take on Dreams FC at the Theatre of Dreams and would aim to get something positive from there to commence their challenge for honours this season.

Returnees, Real Tamale United will bring league football to the Northern regional capital after the long absence of top-flight action in the region. The Northern Blues will welcome Great Olympics to the Aliu Mahama stadium to kickstart their new adventure in the league.

Bibiani Gold Stars will also welcome Berekum Chelsea to their home turf to begin their premier league life which will be their debut season in the competition since their inception over two decades ago. It would be an experience they would want to give to their fans and fortunately, they are playing against a side that won the league three seasons following promotion to the top-flight and would be an inspiration to the side as they would seek to emulate such successes.

The last of the three newly promoted sides, Accra Lions will welcome Elmina Sharks to Accra for their first premier league match. Sharks made a miraculous escape march to force themselves against the drop on the last day of the season and would want to avoid such by turning out positive in their first match.

See the rest of the fixtures for week one which will be played on the weekend beginning October 29 to October 31.
