We will haul Local Government minister before Parliament if Akufo-Addo fails to release MMDCEs list by October

Nii Lante Vanderpuye - MP for Odododiodio

The minority in parliament is not enthused about the delay in the appointment of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives in the country.

To the caucus, this does not augur well for development at the local government level, though the government also argues that it does not affect development at that level. The Minority further revealed that it is the first time such delays is happening in the history of Ghana.

The NDC legislator for Odododiodoo constituency, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye hinted about the fact that the Minister will be hauled before Parliament upon resumption from recess in October if the President fails to release the list of MMDCEs by then.

“We are waiting if, by the time Parliament reconvenes, the list has not been given, we are going to summon the Minister for Local Government and Regional Reorganisation to answer and tell us why this undue delay is happening.”

The government has continued to receive bashing for the lack of progress in appointing new MMDCEs eight months into a new administration. Per Article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution, these appointments are the sole preserve of the President.
