The performance of the New Patriotic Party in terms of infrastructure in the Ashanti Region has strongly been defended by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah.

His defence comes on the back of some criticism suggesting that the region is a stronghold for the NPP during elections and much more is expected of the party in terms of development in the region.

He cited some infrastructural developments ongoing in the region which includes the Kumasi Airport expansion, Kejetia Central Market Phase II project and others.

Briefing the press on August 24, 2022, Mr Osei-Mensah reiterated his position saying “As much as I admit that the government has not been able to bridge the gap between the regional expectation of infrastructural development and actual delivery, I am of the strongest conviction that the NPP government has not performed badly in terms of provision of development facilities in the Ashanti region.

“We have the airport expansion project to be completed by the end of this year. Whatever the situation is, this project will be completed by the end of this year. We also have the Kejetia Central Market Phase II project. If we can do any proper decongestion in Kumasi, it is this project that is going to solve it.”

He further blamed the slow pace of the project on the global economic crisis indicating that for that situation the projects would have been completed by now.
