Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has underscored the need to build up strong systems to battle indiscipline and the canker of corruption.

He said indiscipline and corruption in both the public and private sectors have for many years denied the country of the needed revenue for development.

Dr Bawumia while delivering a speech at the Ghana Baptist Convention during its 59th Annual session in the Ashanti Region, reiterated the need for collaborative efforts to create systems that will battle this canker.

He added that “One of the key hindrances in fulfilling God’s purpose is corruption. Corruption inhibits economic growth and affects business operations, employment and investment. It reduces tax revenue and the effectiveness of various financial assistance programmes. It has become increasingly important that nations develop systems that care for all, empower all and minimise the gap between the rich and the poor.”

Unfortunately, the efforts being made by Ghana to fight corruption have not made any progress according to findings from Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index.

Ghana was placed in 43rd position in 2020 and 2021 which is still below average per Transparency International‘s standards.

Also, just thirty per cent of Ghanaians believe corruption can be exposed without any fears which slipped by 4 percentage points as compared to 2019.
