Security analyst commends government for changes at National Security
The government has been commended by security analyst Dr Adam Bonaa for the changes carried out at the National Security and the National Intelligence Bureau.
According to him, this was long overdue with a specific focus on National Security where he slammed the institution as being riddled with corruption.
Mr Edward Asomani was confirmed by President Akufo-Addo as the new National Security Co-ordinator on 5th August 2022.
He previously served as Deputy National Security Coordinator till his appointment which was contained in a statement endorsed by Director of communications at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin on 5th Aug 2022.
The National Security Coordinator is constitutionally mandated to receive advice from the National Security Council in collaboration with the Public Service Commission to enable him discharge his duties well.
Amb. Maj Gen (Rtd) Francis Adu-Amanfoh, who is the outgoing National Security Coordinator is also to serve in a different capacity with effect from Monday, August 8, 2022. He will now assume the role of Special Advisor to the President for the Accra Initiative.
This new Initiative he is to serve under was birthed in September 2017 by Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Togo to tackle the growing insecurity situation due to violent extremism in the West African Sub-region.
The NIB has a new Director General in the person of Nana Attobrah Quaicoe who was also appointed by President Akufo-Addo to act, with effect from Monday 8th August 2022
Confirmation of his appointment is also subject to the rigorous process where it is constitutionally mandated to receive advice from the National Security Council in collaboration with the Public Service Commission.
Meanwhile, outgoing Director General of NIB Mr Kwaku Domfeh is now to serve as Ambassador-designate to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Expressing his thoughts on the changes effected, Dr Adam Bonaa said “The National Security needs to be swept or cleaned with a parazone because there are a lot of rots that go on there. I am just surprised that it has taken the president this long to come to this realization that some of us have been talking about.
Mr Bonnaa also express how this instance is novel where he cited they happen only when a person is retiring or someone doing something
“But I can tell you that a lot of things are taking place and have taken place, most of it started from the foremost intelligence agency, the National Security. So I am not surprised.”
