Chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Drivers Association, Mr George Nyaunn is optimistic their meeting with the NPA would yield the results they are looking for.

The association bemoaned that some of its members were wrongly accused of tampering due to a poorly monitored Electrical Cargo Tracking System.

He also categorically stated that as a union they fully support monitoring drivers who are transporting fuel.

“We expect the authority, if it is tampering, to have a relook at it vividly so that they come out with a report.”

“Those are the things we are talking about. We are not saying they shouldn’t track the trucks,” Mr Nyaunu said.

He then indicated the union’s readiness to support any sanctions announced if any driver is found culpable in such an act.

“We will support them even against the driver because we need to sanitise the system. We agree with them,” he said.

In drawing the government’s attention to the Association’s plight, the embarked on an industrial action between August 1 and August 5.

It also wanted the ban on the construction of new LPG stations lifted, better conditions of service, and a second look at the Electronic Cargo Tracking system.

Meanwhile, the NPA, the body in charge of the system has commenced a series of engagements with stakeholders in the petroleum downstream to address the situation.
