The western part of the Greater Accra region will face an interruption in water supply later this month. The interruption will be from Monday, September 13 to Friday, September 17.

In a letter issued by the Management of Ghana Water Company Limited, the institution said its engineers will be replacing some faulty valves on the main 900mm transmission pipelines, which impedes the flow of water and causes serious challenges in the distribution line.

It was also indicated in the release that there are some leakages within the supply area, causing GWCL to lose several volumes of water daily. This, the institution claims, is having a serious impact on the volumes of water available for consumption.

Also, the company has admonished its consumers “especially consumers in the western part of the metropolis to store enough water for consumption during the period of the shut-down” with the assurance that “GWCL engineers will also take advantage of the shutdown to install some electromagnetic meters at the Weija Treatment Plant, which will help in the company’s drive to reduce Non-Revenue Water.”

The areas envisaged to be hardest hit include; Weija, Gbawe, Kasoa, Mallam, Sakaman, Odorkor, Dansoman, Mamprobi, Agege, Korle-Gorno, Korle-Bu, Laterbiokorshie, Mataheko, North Industrial Area, Kaneshie, Awudome Estates, North Kaneshie, Abeka La Paz, Quarshieman, Anyaa, Santa Maria, Ablekuma, Alhaji, Tabora, Tesano, Dome, Taifa, Achimota and surrounding communities.

Meanwhile, GWCL has given the assurance that the water supply will be resumed immediately after the repair works are completed.

It also revealed that it has put in place measures to serve the affected areas, so the impact will not be severe.
