Saturday, October 8 2022 in the morning, the people of Sirigu witnessed something special that has never happened before in the community all thanks to the efforts of their young leader, Naba Roland Atogumdeeya Akwara. A health walk that brought together rulers from three other communities and participants from at least three other neighbouring communities.

Members of the community and other neighbouring communities such as Kandiga, Natugnia and Yua teamed up and embarked on a health walk for two purposes, lift the ban on noise-making and promote peace. Even Sirigu’s ancestral home, Zeco, in far away Burkina Faso was present for the dual-purpose event.

Organized under the authority of the esteemed and revered young leader who also led the walk alongside top traditional rulers from other communities, the walk was to mark the end of the annual ban on noise-making and to promote friendship, unity and peace between Sirigu and its neighbours.

Sirigu is strategically positioned among the communities in the east of the Kasena-Nankana area and has been the torch bearer in most things in the area and thus had the mandate to play the ‘big brother’ role in preaching and living peace.

Peace is one thing that has eluded parts of the area for some time now thanks to the efforts of the respected monarch and the collective efforts of leaders of two of the recently feuding communities[Kandiga and Doba], the feuding communities recently smoked the peace pipe and committed to oneness in a ceremony hosted by Naba Akwara III. So the walk was to also strengthen and further highlight the need for peace and to celebrate the decision of the two brother communities in the west of Sirigu to commit to peace.

The walk which started at the Sirigu Naba palace in the early hours of Saturday morning took the large crowd of jubilant participants largely made of youth to Zorko, a neighbouring community to Sirigu and Kandiga in the South and then back to their starting point in Sirigu to climax the event.

Present to support Naba Akwara were the chiefs of Zeco from Burkina Faso, Bolga Yerikabiisi and Bolga Sherigu.

Over 2500 people from Sirigu, 600 from Kandiga and at least 200 from other communities joined the walk that also had some men and women of the security services including the Ghana National Fire Service in Sirigu present.
