The government of Ghana is sending caution to all employees in the public sector who have not secured their Ghana Card that they will not be paid if they fail to do so before December 1. This was contained in a release by the Controller and Accountant General Department, the body tasked with paying most persons under government payroll.

In a release on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, “All current and prospective government employees are advised to ensure that they are registered with the NIA and have their identity numbers”.

“Please note that employees on the Government of Ghana payroll who have not registered with the NIA will not be paid beginning December 1, 2021”, the statement added.

The move according to the Controller and Accountant-Department General’s (CAGD)  in collaboration with the National Identification Authority (NIA) is to create a harmonized database that will facilitate biometric and unique identification of all workers on the government payroll as part of the Government of Ghana’s efforts to provide speedy, secure and verified payroll services to government employees and pensioners while reducing the risk of undeserving payments or claims.
