GES announces date for resumption of basic and second-cycle schools

After the initial concerns raised over the resumption date of the Basic and Senior High School which caused worry especially among stakeholders, the resumption date for schools have finally been released.

According to the Ghana Education Service, basic school pupils are to report back to school on January 18 2022, while for the second cycle schools the continuing students are expected back in school on February 7 2022.

New entrants into second cycle institutions are also expected to commence their new academic journey by April 4th 2022.

It will be observed that per the calendar released by the GES there is the gradual phasing out of the double-track system.

And also a semester-based academic calendar has been released for public Kindergarten, Primary and Junior High Schools.

The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, said: “We are working to come up with a calendar that goes beyond 2022. We are finalizing that bit of it, but we can’t keep waiting until that is done.”
