Police officer Sergeant Emmanuel Asiedu, 44, of the Koforidua SWAT Unit, has been discovered dead in his leased house in Adjeiwa Lodge in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

DSP Ebenezer Tetteh of the Eastern Regional Police Command Public Affairs Unit revealed that on Thursday, March 31 at around 10:30 p.m, the deceased police officer’s neighbours reported him unconscious to the Regional Information Desk.

DSP Ebenezer Tetteh explained that “I was on duty when a call came in to report about his death, a team of three went to examine him at his rented premises before we conveyed him to the Eastern Regional Hospital.”

The deceased officer according to the police report was lying on his bed unresponsive in a supine position wearing a pair of blue-black vertically striped jeans.

“Upon a thorough inspection, some little dried foam was found on his mouth and a blackish dried substance smeared all over his face. No marks of violence were found on the body” the report indicated.

However, police say they suspected foul play adding that “it’s a case of unnatural death, hence due process would be pursued”.

Medical personnel at the Eastern Regional Central Hospital in Koforidua officially declared him dead and the body has since been transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra for an autopsy.

Meanwhile, police authorities say that while investigations have begun into the incident their preliminary investigation is unable to confirm whether the deceased officer shared the rented apartment with anyone else.
