Appointments Committee to commence sitting before Parliament resumes

In order to be able to meet its demands, the Appointments Committee is scheduled to commence hearings for the six nominees of the President who are to take up various roles in government two weeks before parliament’s resumption date from the recess.

The nominees by the President include four Justices due for promotion to the Supreme Court bench.

Also, two nominees, a minister and deputy in the person of Lariba Zuweira Abudu, Member of  Parliament for Walewale and Member of Parliament for Kwabre East, Francisca Oteng Mensah will also face the committee.

Lariba Abudu and Francisca Mensah have been nominated for the roles of minister and deputy at the Gender, Children and Social Protection  Ministry respectively after former  Minister Sarah Adwoa Safo’s appointment was revoked by the president.

Meanwhile, the names of the Justices promoted include three Justices of the Court of Appeal; Justice Barbara Frances Ackah-Yensu, Justice George Kingsley Koomson and Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu Asiedua Justice with the last person being a High Court judge, Justice Ernest Yao Gaewu.

As stipulated by the constitution, reports to be tendered in by the appointments committee are subject to approval or disapproval upon the house’s resumption from recess.
