Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has touted the development Zongo communities in Ghana have seen since the New Patriotic Party came into office in 2017.

He made a strong case for the establishment of a Zongo Development Fund to ensure Zongo communities across the country get a fair share of the national cake for equitable development.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the board of the Zongo Development Fund, Dr Bawumia said “As we envisioned, the Zongo Development Fund has been a vehicle for inclusive and sustainable development for Zongo Communities and delivery of projects”.

In a bid to bridge the gap in terms of development between other communities and Zongos, the government decided to establish the Zongo Development Fund to facilitate this process of equitable development to come into fruition.

Previously called the Ministry of Inner-Cities and Zongo Development, it has in the past four years spearheaded infrastructural projects in the areas of education, sanitation, roads and sports have been undertaken.

Projects such as the refurbishing and construction of classroom blocks, clinics, drainage systems, security installations, bridges,  roads, entrepreneurial and educational support, and Astroturfs to boost sports are some of the things achieved with the fund.
