The lack of electricity supply in the Krobo enclave in the Eastern Region has left the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly fearing it could fail to meet its internal revenue target for the year if this situation persists.

It has been two weeks now since residents of Yilo and Manya Krobo municipalities have been left in darkness due to its current impasse with the Electricity Company of Ghana amidst safety concerns raised by ECG.

Mr Eric Tetteh, the Municipal Chief Executive for the area has complained about how economic activities have been on a downward turn due to this current power situation.

He also assured that the assembly is still in touch with stakeholders to resolve the power situation in the community.

“It is quite unfortunate that the people will have to go through this. There is a radio station here that says it spends about GH¢800 daily on fuel to run its generator. Another hospital says it spends about GH¢1700 daily. How is this sustainable, especially for individuals who run their businesses? How many profits or revenue will be generated if they spend this much on fuel daily?”

He said it difficult to collect revenue from businesses in the community because genuinely they are struggling due to the current situation.

Meanwhile, the Divisional Chief of the Okper Yilo Krobo, Nene Anyeenorgu Teye has condemned the activities of “persons who cut down high tension poles belonging to the ECG at Adelakope on the Tema-Akosombo highway in the region”.
