Police apologize to journalists who were prevented from covering Owusu Bempah court appearance

The Ghana Police Service has said that it has commenced investigations into reported assaults on some journalists.

In a Press release issued today, the Police Service stated that its attention has been drawn to the fact that some journalists were prevented from entering the courtroom at the time Reverend Owusu Bempah and three other members of his church were arraigned before court.

The Police Service also indicated that it has received reports of attacks on some Journalists by some persons believed to be church members and supporters of the embattled man of God and disclosed that “a team is currently studying the footage of the alleged assault of some of the journalists to identify the alleged perpetrators for immediate prosecution”.

Whiles assuring journalists of full protection and the freedom “to do their work at all times including the subsequent coverage of this case”, the Police administration rendered an unreserved apology to all for any inconvenience caused.

Among journalists who were prevented from doing their work and assaulted were Justice Agbenorsi who works with Graphic Online, Murtala Inusah of Starr FM and Angel FM’s court correspondent Ama Buruaah.
