Petitions keep pouring in at the Parliament house concerning the bill to criminalize the activities of Lesbians, Gay bisexuals, Transgender, Queer, Intersex (LGBTQI) in the country.

This time around it was the turn of the Coalition Of Muslim Organisation Ghana (COMOG) to present their petition in support of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values 2021 which does not support the activities of LGBTQI and more so criminalizes anything related to the practice.

After a misunderstanding resulted in a standoff at the security post of the Parliament house, the group was finally led by the legislator for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George to successfully present its petition to the Constitutional Legal and Parliamentary Affairs committee.

During the presentation, the COMOG swore to protect the sanity and integrity of Ghana. It further indicated that it was time our legislators come out boldly to declare their stand on the issue at hand.

The issue of LGBTQI even before recent times has been one of the topical and most controversial issues the Ghanaian society has had to contend with. While a section of the society abhors it and supporting the Sam George-led bill, the “Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values 2021”. at the extreme end are some academics, human rights activists and some distinguished Ghanaian professionals who have taken the mandate the ensure the bill is not passed.
