True to his word during the Graduation ceremony of some officers from the Police Training Academy, President Akufo-Addo is scheduled to swear into office Dr George Akuffo Dampare as the substantive Inspector General of Police today October 8, 2021.

Dr Dampare is set to become Ghana’s  23rd IGP after acting in that capacity for two months. COP Dampare, 51, until his appointment to the role of an acting IGP was the Director-General in charge of Administration at the Ghana Police Service.

He makes history as Ghana’s youngest IGP to be appointed in the Fourth Republic and the eighth youngest since Ghana gained independence.

With about 30 years of experience in active service, he unusually rose through the ranks of a constable to the current portfolio.

It would be recalled that President Akufo-Addo some ago weeks expressed confidence in the IGP and promised to provide the needed support for him to succeed as IGP.

As he spoke during the 50th Cadet Officers Graduation Ceremony held at the National Police Training School in Accra, the President said COP George Dampare’s recent initiatives justify his appointment as acting IGP while emphasizing that Dr Dampare has vindicated his decision to appoint him.
