District Chief Executive for Ellembelle, Mr Kwasi Bonzo who two weeks ago fell out with the Western Regional Police Command has come out to clarify that he did not accuse the police of the missing excavators.

Making his side of the story known further during an interview on TV3,  he said “I never accused the police of the missing excavators. I only questioned how it got missing with two constables guarding the excavator.”

He affirmed his believe in the owners of the excavator being traced and brought to book according to the law.

Though according to him the brouhaha with the police was unfortunate but needful as it has brought the discussion on illegal mining to the fore.

The DCE then added that “knowing what I know about illegal mining we need a concerted effort to tackle it”.

Regarding  what he has done so far in his district that has gained notoriety for this trend he pointed out that within the space of four years he has led 18 galamsey clampdowns in his district  while making it clear that he is not into mining  “never I do not know how it is done my district know my stance on the issue”.

Mr Bonzo also revealed that he was not informed when the first excavator was retrieved and was getting snippets of information through his intel that the second one may also have been found.

He retreated that cooperative efforts are needed to tackle the issue of illegal mining. He added that a community in his district have lost their source of water to this menace.
