Government to appoint press secretaries for MMDCEs

Issues regarding the appointment of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) are entirely not out of muddy waters due to disagreement by party supporters over the nomination of some persons but that does not even it as plans are far advanced to assign spokespersons or press secretaries to the appointed MMDCEs across the country.

This is to help the MMDCEs focus on their core mandate while enabling them to relay the message of exactly what they are doing to the public.

Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah revealed this new step during a meeting with the press in the Eastern Region as part of the ongoing media tour initiative which had other government officials such as Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong and Spokesperson to the Information Minister Yaw Adomako Baafi in attendance.

The Ofoase Ayirebi legislator stressed that the attachment of press secretaries to the MMDCEs is part of government efforts to engage the press more in their works.

Citing an example of himself he said “Even the president himself is leading the work and I am the one who is travelling from Takoradi to Ho, Cape Coast, Oti Region to Koforidua so I can engage you, the same way the mayor, the MMDCE is doing a number of things, occasionally he may be able to speak to you but we must help him by getting him a press secretary or spokesperson who can on regular basis be responding to you”.

It is expected that the move brings the expected results and not just another bloat on the public purse where people are paid for doing virtually no work.
