Former President John Dramani Mahama on his “Thank You” tour has once again thrown a jab at the government but this time, at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

He described the government’s flagship Planting for Food and Jobs program of the Ministry as a total failure.

The reason behind the former president’s comments on this program is because according to him before the New Patriotic Party took office Ghana had an agricultural arrangement with the Canadian government to boost Ghana’s agricultural practice. The NPP failed to manage it and rather are championing Planting for Food and Jobs which Ghanaians cannot feel or see its benefits.

He further cautioned that if care is not taken Ghana might experience famine in 2022 if they do not manage the program well.

However, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has through its press secretary, Mr Issah Ridwan reacted to Mahama’s comments stating that he does not get where former president John Mahama got such facts to support his claims.

He further rebuffed them by stating that currently, Ghana is the only country in the West African sub-region with a stable outlook when it comes to food security.

Mr Ridwan assured that Ghana will have a bumper harvest this year and will not experience famine contrary to what the former president is saying.

This module launched in 2017 is aimed at promoting food security and immediate availability of selected food crops on the market and also to provide jobs.
