Judge him not by his mother tongue but by the content of his character and works
H.E. John Dramani Mahama spoke softly, and carried a big stick. Like KKD says, H.E. John Mahama isn’t perfect, nor will he ever be. He’s human and fallible just like you and I are. Perhaps he had too much faith in us, and gave we, the people, too much credit, believing that Ghanaians were open minded enough to judge him not by the sound of his name, where he was from, the clothes he wore, or what his mother tongue was, but by the content of his character, his work, his love, dedication, service to his country, and by how well he’d played his part in the relay race.
Things weren’t perfect during his presidency. There were major challenges and yes, he got some of the things wrong. His communications team, as KKD rightly points out, was atrociously selfish and ineffective. They simply threw him under the bus and left him out to dry. But how much of this, if any, is about H.E. John Mahama or his horrific communications team?
I wouldn’t know where or how to begin to apportion blame or liability. But if we’re ready to confront our demons, and speak and admit the inconvenient truths, we’ll agree that this is not a John Mahama issue. No, it’s not. The demon that which we must confront, is a national cancer of some section of Ghanaians not giving credit to another section, even in the face of excellence. To put it bluntly, Northerners are simply not given the credit where and when due them. To some Ghanaians, the content of the character of a Northerner alone is disqualifying in of itself. What an appalling and a cancerous mindset to have.
Like KKD said, H.E. John Dramani Mahama isn’t perfect, and didn’t get everything right. But he sure was one hell of a great president. I wouldn’t rate him the greatest president in our history — That great title is reserved for Ghana’s true Founder and first president, Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah.
When it comes to the best president in our Fourth Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama is second to none! He’s simply the best. Don’t judge him according to my words. Judge him on the content of his character, his transformational leadership, his service and voluminous work for his country, and you’ll agree.
Medaase for Thanks!
