Should Somalia’s Opposition Accept The Peace Offer Or Continue War?

0

Finally, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, Somalia’s current controversially re-elected president has conceded announcing an Indirect Election urging [according to the UN up to a thousand] Mogadishu’s absconders to return.

Loyal opposition forces remain unmoved at their strongholds mainly some way close to the Presidential Palace. Bear in mind schools have been closed in addition to the roadblocks after last Sunday’s altercation between the resisting militia and the soldiers.

The decision of the opposing to hold firm may stem from lost trust in president Farmajo who assumed power after the end of his tenure.

Somalia has been a centre for constant civic unrest until a few years ago when opposing powerhouses met and settled after an election. But just as a semblance of normalcy settles, another tension happens. Current president, Farmajo completed his constitutionally permitted tenure in February but did not step down. With support from the lower house of lawmakers allotted himself extra two years, triggering large protests prompting a chain of unpleasant reactions.

Hopefully the opposing side takes the offer of a peace for the sake of innocent civilians.
