Four elections in two years coupled with the recent attacks on Palestine, the world was not expecting the refocus to address the abandoned issue of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s corruption scandals and removal from office but it seems to be time now to switch to a stable coalition.
Yair Lapid, Israel’s opposition leader was in talks with several political parties trying to convince them to form a new unity government. However, the right wing Nationalist politician Naftali Bennett who plays a key role to the coalition’s success expects he will become Prime Minister ahead of Lapid in a rotational arrangement. But there was also the resistance of the Arab Party, demanding concessions on behalf of the Arab minorities.
The current Prime Minister, Netanyahu and his party who are bidding to clinch onto to slipping power continue to appeal to the right wing politician not to join the new alliance, his reasoning, it’ll only weaken security and pose danger to Israel.
Several hours of tensed negotiations have been held amongst the political parties in Israel confident in forming a coalition to oust Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Reports were initially made of the announcement of the result during early local time on June 2nd 2021 but did not pull through. Regardless, the opposition had until midnight that day to arrive at a final decision.
Now finally with just forty minutes to spare and relieved, the newly formed opposition party leader of Israel called the president to make a formal declaration.
Stretching from the liberal left to the nationalist right, Arab lawmakers included in the unity government, eight parties listed. Yair Lapid then hands the phone to the religious right wing politician who is set to be next Prime Minister to serve two years before his replacement to make the evolutionary exchange.
