In less than two months, WhatsApp will stop working on old smartphones
WhatsApp will stop working on old smartphones come November 1, 2021. This will lead to millions of people not being able to receive nor send messages, videos or photos to loved ones.
Both Android and iOS models will not be able to use the new encrypted WhatsApp service. Android phones with models Android 4.0.4 or earlier versions will be incompatible as well as iPhones iOS 9 or earlier.
New features have been added to the messaging services which will be incompatible with the mentioned models. Features such as joinable group call amidst others.
In the new features, You can now send photos and videos that can only be viewed once by recipients.
Archived chats will now stay archived and muted when new messages arrive. You can change the experience in Settings > Chats > Keep Chats Archived.
You can now leave and rejoin group calls from the calls tab while they are ongoing.
If you happen to have a phone which falls within the aforementioned models, it’s best you change it if you still want to enjoy WhatsApp messaging Services.
These phones will not be able to support the Facebook-owned app starting from November. Noted that the list is not exhaustive.

Samsung
The Samsung Galaxy Trend Lite, Galaxy Trend II, Galaxy SII, Galaxy S3 mini, Galaxy Xcover 2, Galaxy Core and Galaxy Ace 2.
Huawei
The Huawei Ascend G740, Ascend Mate, Ascend D Quad XL, Ascend D1 Quad XL, Ascend P1 S, and Ascend D2.
