MP for Builsa South and Deputy Ranking Member of the Education Committee of Parliament, Dr Clement Apaak has questioned Dr Bawumia on why he has his [Bawumia] name on some buses donated to certain health training institutions in the country.

Dr Apaak questioned Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia through a Facebook post he made on Sunday, September 5, 2021.

The legislator in his post indicated that he had received several messages and accompanying pictures of buses with the inscriptions on the buses “College of Health (SEFWI-ASAFO). Donated by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Vice President of The Republic of Ghana; and Nalerigu Nursing and Health Assistant Training School. Donated by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Vice President of The Republic of Ghana.”

He then revealed that the questions those who sent the messages to him are asking are”

a) Why is the Vice President’s name embossed on the buses as having donated them to the health training institutions?

b) Did Bawumia buy these buses from his personal resources or got them through his own private sources?

c) Is it right for Bawumia to have his name embossed on the buses as the donor if the buses were procured with public resources?

Moving on, Dr Apaak requested that for the sake of transparency and accountability, the vice president ought to provide further and better particulars by answering the questions the people sent to him.

He concluded by saying, “It is Dr Bawumia’s responsibility to let Ghanaians know the source of funds for the purchase of buses inscribed with his name as the donor. Failure to clarify will only lead to the conclusion that Dr Bawumia is using entrusted power for personal gain: abuse of power, corruption”.
