We will fight for the title till the last minute – Johnson Smith

John Smith -Kotoko assistant coach

Kumasi Asante Kotoko assistant Coach, Johnson Smith believes his side is still firmly in the race for the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League title.

His comments came during an interview with the media after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Bechem United in their penultimate league match of the season. This was despite Kotoko’s arch-rivals Accra Hearts having opened a 4 point lead at the top of the table with one match to spare and were crowned champions of the league.

“You’re saying we are out of the league but still we are fighting because there is still one match to go so we are not out of the title race now,” he stated.

He then continued, “we are still fighting. We want to finish the final game of the season and see who will eat the sugar on the cake”.

Maybe he was not aware Hearts of Oak drew with Liberty Professionals at Accra and have opened a 4 point lead at the top which cannot be matched even if Kotoko wins their last match against Elmina Sharks by a huge margin and Hearts of Oak lost against the West African Football Academy.

For now, Kotoko, according to Johnson Smith still have everything to play for and are hopeful of mounting a last-minute challenge to “eat the sugar on the cake” but Hearts of Oak would care less about that as they have already secured themselves the title.
