Ghana’s male U-17 national team, the Black Starlets, avoided defeat against Nigeria in the ongoing WAFU tournament in Togo by scoring late in the game to draw 1-1 on Saturday.

The Golden Eaglets took the lead in the 77th minute through Joseph Amurala’s spot-kick. Abdul Fataw, Ghana’s captain, also scored from 12-yards to draw parity in the 84th minute at the Kegue Stadium, Lome.

The Black Starlets controlled proceedings in the first-half and had a couple of decent chances that they could not make count.

After a couple of penalty shouts, the Nigerians finally got one in the 76th minute that Amulara did not hesitate to put away.

The Ghanaians started mounting pressure for the equalizer and were also awarded a spot-kick. Abdul Fataw converted it to end the game in a draw.

The Starlets need to avoid a defeat against Cote D’Ivoire to make it to the next round of the competition.

The Ivorians lead Group B with three points after their 1-0 win against Nigeria in their opening game.
