Patrick Razak late magic secures President’s cup for Hearts of Oak
Accra Hearts of Oak have added yet another trophy to their cabinet thanks to late magic from Patrick Razak as the Phobians down Premier League leaders and sworn rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium
Both sides had a few decent chances in the first stanza of the game but none could make it count as the first half ended in a goalless draw.
However, the story changed five minutes after the break with the Phobians taking the lead against the Porcupines. Fatawu Mohammed sent in a cross that went glancing at the Kotoko goal area and was headed away but it fell right in front of Afriyie Barnieh who catapulted a thunderous strike beyond the reach of Danlad Ibrahim.
Frank Etouga thought he had pulled level for Kotoko but the referee was spot on the whistle for an offside against the premier league’s leading scorer.
Samuel Boateng did get the equalizer for Kotoko a few moments after he was introduced into the game. That was not long after Mohammed Alhassan failed to put the game beyond Kotoko after he missed a big chance to score the Phobians second of the day.
Patrick Razak did however get the second for the Phobians with less than two minutes of regulation time to be played after Hearts of Oak weathered Kotoko’s pressure before launching a long ball into their opponents’ half. Patrick Razak picked the ball and skipped past two Kotoko defenders before leaving Danlad crashing to the floor and skipping past him to slot into an empty net.
Kotoko put in late pressure in added time but it was not enough as Samuel Boadu’s men held on to claim the win and win their fifth President’s Cup trophy.
