The dust finally seems to be settling in with regards to the impasse between the University Teachers Association of Ghana and the government following the latter’s revelation that they have now found a common ground.

After several meetings between both parties ending inconclusively the one on 4th March 2022 seem to have yielded some results following UTAG’s revelation that they have finally reached an agreement with the government after successful deliberations.

“What we can say for now is that we have resolved the situation that we find ourselves in with our employer. So, as we speak, we have been able to settle our differences now. We have moved on”, National Secretary of UTAG, Dr Asare Asante Annor.

Aggrieved members have been mounting pressure on the government to introduce the agreed 2012 conditions of service.

It is so glaring how UTAG’s strike has negatively impacted academic activities in public universities but thankfully, that will be a thing of the past as the two parties have ended the impasse before the nation marks her 65th anniversary since gaining independence from British colonial rule in 1957.

And due to trust issues with the government most UTAG branches were not in favour of their executives’ decision to get back to the lecture halls despite the fact that the lecturers had resolved to suspend their industrial action.

But alas some good news as executives of UTAG ended negotiations with the government over their concerns. However, the group says it is hoped that the government will fulfil its part of the bargain.

“We want to take this opportunity to thank the General UTAG members for their support. We also hope that, with the intervention from the President that there will be a lasting solution to the impasse, he is going to see through it”, Dr Asare Asante Annor appealed.
