The Ghana National Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has extended a sponsorship package to four Premier Clubs for the 2022/23 football season.

Nsoatreman FC, Akyem Kotoku Royals, FC Samartex, and Tamale City FC who all were promoted at the end of the season have received the sponsorship package from the NHIS.

Addressing the media, the CEO of The scheme, Dr. Oko Boye stated that the partnership with these clubs will ensure that a lot of Ghanaians are enrolled in the NHIS.

He added that though the scheme is cash trap, the uniqueness of the partnership is that it “is not those partnership where a cheque is signed, one million dollars, go and used it for football, what we are doing is to allocate funds to register every footballer that are part of these teams, for the Health Insurance scheme”.

Dr Oko Boye said on Wednesday, 31st August maintained that “all their family members on the Health Insurance and guess what? With GH¢200,000.00 we can register over 20,000 who are connected to these players”.

Managers of the teams accepted to use their clubs as a medium to woo more people into the cash-strapped health insurance scheme to boost its operations.
