Milovan Rajevac names Ghana’s final squad for AFCON 2022
Head Coach of the Ghana senior national male football team, Milovan Rajevac has named his final 28-man squad for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, six days to the tournament and seven before Ghana’s kick off its campaign against the Atlas Lions of Morocco.
The coach named his squad after over a week of camping in Doha to prepare for the tournament. The delayed arrival of several key players meant some of his stars only joined this weekend with the England-based contingent being among the late arrivals owing to league engagement with their clubs.
All five home-based players who were named in the provisional 30-man squad have been included in the final squad in what would be considered a fair representation from the Ghanaian league.
The only commissions from the 30-man provisional squad are Felix Afena Gyan of AS Roma who reportedly turned down the opportunity in order to concentrate on his club career and Clermont Foot midfielder Salis Abdul Samed who received his maiden call up to the team.
As part of the preparation, the Black Stars will face reigning African champions, Algeria in a friendly on Wednesday, January 5 at Education City stadium in Doha to wrap up their training ahead of the tournament kick-off.
The Black Stars were knocked out by Tunisia in the Round of 16 in the last tournament in Egypt and would want to go a step better and probably annex the trophy that has eluded them for four decades but that would have to start with a group stage qualification from a group that houses Morocco, Comoros and Gabon.
