Kotoko and Hearts secure wins as Aduana Stars drop points again at Sogakope

Accra Hearts of Oak returned to winning ways in the league by beating Medeama 1-0 over the weekend. Isaac Mensah headed in the only goal in the match in the 55th minute as Hearts held on the see out the win.

Asante Kotoko also consolidated its place at the summit of the table by beating King Faisal with a lone goal in the Kumasi derby. This is the first time this season that Kotoko has been able to beat King Faisal. The two previous attempts ended in defeats to the Porcupine Warriors. Imoro Ibrahim scored the only goal in the game in the 4th-minute.

Farouk Adams scored a 26th-minute goal for Bibiani Gold Stars to beat Dreams FC 1-0. The win has left Gold Stars in 12th position on the league table while Dreams occupy 9th with 30 points, one more than Gold Stars.

Elmina Sharks continue to chase shadows as the league nears its closing stages. Sharks were hapless over the weekend against Karela United as they went down 3-1 to Karela. Michael Ohene Asamoah fired the Sharks into the lead after just 10 minutes into the game but that lasted not long as Emmanuel Dagadu fired the first of his two goals in the game just six minutes later. Emmanuel Boakye Owusu added one to put Karela in the lead before Dagadu completed his brace with four minutes to the hour mark.

Ibrahim Laar scored in either half of the match between Eleven Wonders and Accra Lions as the Sure Wonder edged out the league debutants with a two-goal victory. It was Wonders’ first win since the last week of February when they beat Ashanti Gold by 1-4 and followed that up with two draws and two defeats.

Legon Cities secured a two-nil victory over Ashanti Gold in Accra as they continue to move away from the relegation zone. Ahmed Rahman scored after 13 minutes into the game and Michael Otuo added the second from the penalty spot with 10 minutes to end proceedings. The result leaves the Miners five points off the relegation zone while the Royals are seven points clear of the drop zone.

The West Africa Football Academy and Aduana Stars played out a goalless draw at Sogakope on Sunday. The result means both teams have now gone three matches without a win after they both won by a lone goal against Hearts of Oak and Real Tamale United on week 20. WAFA remain in the drop zone with 23 points, only one better than RTU who will play later on Monday while Aduana Stars remain second on the league log with 39 points, 10 points behind league leader Asante Kotoko.
