Kingdom FC Wins Sena Foundation Easter Football Gala
The maiden edition of Sena Foundation Gala Fiesta Cup took place at Nsakina M/A JHS park on Sunday, April 4, 2021. Six clubs were invited namely Nsakina FC ,Scooby FC both from Nsakina, Kingdom FC and RUSA both also from Odumase. The rest were Augustine FC from Oshuman and Salam FC from Manhean.
The event started with a ceremonial kick off by the CEO of Pure City International School and Active TV and Radio Network who also is founder of Sena Foundation Mr Precious Kweku Senafiawu who was escorted onto the field by Tournament Cordinator Mr Mohammed Mutaru.
The tournament had three teams in each group namely A and B. Group A had Nsakina FC, Augustine FC and Salam FC. Group B contained Scooby FC, Kingdom FC and Rusa FC.
At the end of the group matches Augustine FC topped Group A with 4 points and one goal. The second placed team in group A was Nsakina FC who qualified narrowly with only 2 points. Salam FC was eliminated after the group stage as they failed to register any goal but earned only a single point.
Group B was easy for Scooby FC as they toped the group with six points beating both Kingdom FC and Rusa FC .Kingdom FC grabbed the second position at the expense of RUSA as they qualified with 3 points which sent Rusa FC packing with no point.
Knockout Stage
The semi finals saw best placed team of group A face the second placed club of group B and vice versa.
Kingdom FC against Augustine FC ended in a goalless draw with the former edging out the latter 5 – 1 via penalties.
The other semi-final fixture which was the Nsakina derby was hotly contested both progress to the next stage and for local pride. At the end of the final whistle, neither side had done enough to progress and had to decide the winner via penalties. Nsakina FC earned the last spot to join the grand finale having emerged victorious by 5 – 4 on penalties.
Before the grand finale took, a third placed play-off between the losers of the semi-final matches was held. Scooby FC this time overcame Augustine FC 5:3 on penalties to take home bronze medals after the full time ended in a goalless draw.
Nsakina FC of Nsakina drew goalless against Kingdom FC in an Nsakina-Odumase final. Kingdom FC however had different ideas and their goalkeeper proved the difference. The agile Agenda in post for the Odumase side saved one spot kick and scored the last for his side to claim the title with a 5 – 4 penalty shootout victory. They thus are the maiden winners of the tournament and would pride themselves in this piece of history they’ve written for themselves.
Awards For Outstanding Players
Outstanding performers were awarded at the end of the tournament with Kingdom FC and Scooby FC sweeping all the individual prizes. Kingsley of Scooby FC scooped the Most Valuable Player of the tournament award and team mate Nunu received the prize for Best Goal of the tournament.
Kingdom FC having cruised to the title also added two individual prizes to their honours. Agenda was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper. He saved a penalty and scored the winning spot kick for his side in the shootout. Kingdom Fc’s Coach Ebenezer claimed the Best Coach award for leading his gallant side to the title.
