I felt disappointed but life goes on – Wollacott speaks on his world cup absence

Black Stars goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott has revealed what happened to him after he discovered he would not be in the Black Stars squad for the World Cup.

He said he felt disappointed when he realized he could participate in the World Cup due to his injury after working so hard to be there.

“I was disappointed obviously initially but I couldn’t do much about it. I had to make the decision whether I carried on or not and had to think about the long-term damage that could not cure if I kept playing with it[injury].

“If I probably would have carried on I wouldn’t have been as sharp as I usually would be so respectfully I had to make the decision and not jeopardize the performances in the game.”

“But it is heartbreaking after you worked so hard to get there and then someone says you can’t go. But I guess it is just sometimes the first things that you just have to keep going and keep being persistent and hopefully more doors are opened in the future.”

The Charton Athletic number one will miss the tournament after picking up an injury in the final weeks before the World Cup just days before Otto Addo announced his final squad. He, together with Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori will both miss the tournament in Qatar and in their places are Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Danlad Ibrahim.
