Alexandre Lacazette has rejoined French League 1 side, Lyon, as a free agent after parting company with Arsenal FC.

The French side confirmed the return of Alexandre Lacazette on a free transfer following the striker’s departure from Arsenal.

Lacazette came through at Lyon and scored 129 goals in over 250 games after coming through the club’s academy.

Commenting on the return to France, Lacazette told fans he was out to fire the Ligue 1 outfit back into continental competition.

He said: “Thank you for the welcome and the love shown in recent months.

“My return has become obvious in recent weeks. Even without Europe, the project is important.

“I felt I can be useful in the locker room and on the pitch. It was the best decision to make.

“I took some time to make my decision. Football is a beautiful profession.

“It was difficult to follow last season from a distance because I couldn’t help. I hope this period is over and that we are going to build a great Lyon.

“The priority is above all to help the club return to the top of the bill with European qualification.”

The club also confirm the striker’s presence on their official website: “Lyon are very proud and very happy to announce the return of Lacazette, a product of the club’s academy”.

Out of contract at English club Arsenal, the French international has signed a three-year deal through June 30, 2025.

Having transferred in July 2017 to Arsenal, Lacazette, at 31, has made the choice to return to the club that has seen him grow and become one of the greatest strikers in its history, despite offers from many major European clubs in recent weeks.
