Former Black Stars winger Christian Atsu has said former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan’s wish should be granted if he wants to go to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Asamoah Gyan is eyeing a sensational return to the Black Stars for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

For the past three years now, Gyan has been side-lined. The Ghanaian goal poacher was a substitute in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clash against Tunisia, his last appearance for the team.

Gyan last played a competitive game in May 2021, representing Legon Cities against WAFA in a Ghana Premier League. Months later, he terminated his contract with the Accra-based club and is still looking for a new one.

He has since been without a club after his one year contract with Legon Cities ended two seasons ago making it very difficult to consider him for selection.

The former Al Ain man hasn’t been active for 16 months, leading many to believe that he has retired. But in an interview with BBC, Gyan dispelled claims of retirement, suggesting he has unfinished business, especially with the Black Stars.

Christian Atsu who played at the 2015 AFCON final with Asamoah Gyan has called on the Ghana FA and the Black Stars technical team to grant the wish of the Ghana legend.

Gyan has played at all three FIFA World Cup tournament appearances by Ghana between 2006 and 2014 scoring Ghana’s first ever goal at the World stage.

He’s the top scoring player in Africa at the FIFA mondial after netting six goals for the Black Stars.
